There is never a dull moment at the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival, and our jam-packed Fringe programme ensures there is something to enjoy morning, noon, and night.
Here is your typical day at the Festival in Buxton:
10:30 am: Morning Lecture
Every morning during the Festival, there will be talks on all things G&S at St John’s Church (just across the road behind the Opera House).
Make sure you don’t miss the lunchtime Classical Pops with our talented singers. These sessions offer forty minutes of relaxation and outstanding entertainment. And each Wednesday lunchtime, you can come and sing along with our professionals (Wednesday 5 August – Iolanthe and Wednesday 12 August – HMS Pinafore, with music provided).
Join us in either St John’s Church or the Pavilion Arts Centre for a matinee fringe event. In St John’s church we will present concerts from Festival favourites Matthew Siveter, Bruce Graham and Sarah Helsby Hughes. In the Pavilion Arts Centre, we welcome our university societies, competing in the UNIFest competition along with a range of smaller amateur societies.
Every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday you can visit a matinee performance at Buxton Opera House presented by our resident professional company The National G&S Opera Company and visiting professional company Charles Court Opera (Friday 7 August).
Almost every day, you can join our resident Gilbert & Sullivan expert Stephen Turnbull in St John’s Church, where he will introduce the evening’s production and the context in which it was written
Join The National Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company, Charles Court Opera and our competing amateurs, all accompanied by The National Festival Orchestra every night in Buxton Opera House for the main event of the day
After the curtain has come down in the Opera House, we invite you to join us at the Festival Cabaret Club. We head next door to the Pavilion Gardens for late night entertainment, supper and drinks.
