The Gilbert & Sullivan Festival welcomes Bus Pass Opera, competing for the International Festival Trophy sponsored by Theatrical Adventures G&S River Cruises.
Bus Pass Opera was established exclusively for the over 60s, and today is firmly established as one of the favourite performing groups in the Festival. HMS Pinafore remains one of the best-loved of the Gilbert & Sullivan operas.
It tells the story of Josephine, the Captain’s daughter, who is in love with a lowly seaman Ralph Rackstraw, despite being promised in marriage to the First Lord of the Admiralty, Sir Joseph Porter. Ralph and Josephine decide to elope, but in true Gilbertian style, it all goes wrong.
The show includes many well-known songs, including I’m called little Buttercup and I am the Monarch of the Sea.
HMS Pinafore is a delightful opera, and this brand-new production promises an evening of hilarious entertainment imbued with Gilbert’s unique wit.
