The Gilbert & Sullivan Festival welcomes Peak Opera, competing for the International Festival Trophy sponsored by Theatrical Adventures G&S River Cruises.
Peak Opera was founded in 2005 to perform at the Festival in Buxton – hence the name “Peak” Opera!
The Gondoliers is a glorious, sunny opera and one of the most popular G&S operas. It is a tale of mistaken identity. Two gondoliers, Marco and Guiseppe, have just married Gianetta and Tessa and are told that one of them is the King of Barataria. But which one?
Nobody knows, so they both must go to Barataria and reign jointly. And to complicate matters, the King was married when he was a baby to Casilda, the beautiful daughter of the Duke of Plaza Toro, so it seems he might also be an unintentional bigamist too!
Beautiful music, including the delightful Dance a cachucha and Take a pair of sparkling eyes.
