We are delighted to welcome back to the Festival GLOC (Grosvenor Light Opera Company) a nonprofit community theatre organization in London, established in 1949 to study and perform the works of Gilbert and Sullivan. It is the only amateur operatic society both to rehearse and perform in Central London and as a result attracts a membership largely of young professionals who work in the centre of town, together with some students attending one of London’s universities and colleges.
Princess Ida features some of Sullivan’s most delightful music and Gilbert’s wittiest lines. The women reign supreme at Castle Adamant where Princess Ida has opened an all-female university to prove the superiority of her sex. Of course, things don’t go to plan, as prince Hilarion, who was engaged to Ida as a baby, dresses as a woman and breaks into the castle to claim his bride.
